KNME Focuses on women's health issues
Physical and emotional well-being are top priorities for everyone. Join KNME as we explore a variety of health and wellness issues through our new community outreach initiative, Take One Step.

From heart disease to the latest cancer research, we offer information and web links to regional and national resources you can use regarding your health. Local and national programming, community events and resource materials offer you an opportunity to explore the many topics that affect you and your family's health.

As part of Take One Step, KNME seeks to improve the diet and exercise routines of Native American women in Sandia Pueblo. The station is working closely with ten families, encouraging them to exercise 90 minutes a week for three months. Three monthly events will help participants track and celebrate their progress, and guest speakers will bring additional knowledge ad perspective to the mix. In addition, KNME will supply the women with fitness gear such as weights, jump ropes, and pedometers, outfitting them for healthy success.

KNME will produce mobile health fairs in Sandia Pueblo, Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Farmington and Espanola. Blue Cross Blue Shield, Sandia Pueblo, New Mexico Lions Eye Foundation, Inc., New Mexico Sports and Wellness, Eye Associates of New Mexico and Wild Oats are the community partners donating their time, expertise, and efforts to help you and your family Take One Step.

Be more informed. The more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to ask the right questions - because your health matters!

KNME presents two videos about women's health and diabetes:

Take one step, launched in January 2007, is a response by PBS to the greatest health challenges facing us today: heart disease, obesity, cancer, and depression. It is a wake-up call for action, offering primetime programming and extensive outreach tools to help people take their first step towards better health.

The campaign begins with two films. Click here to learn more about them.
